Summary
[edit]DescriptionCortinarius vernus H. Lindstr. & Melot 736268.jpg |
Cortinarius vernus H. Lindstr. & Melot Image location: Teanaway Community Forest, Cle Elum, Washington, USA Cap grey-brown when young – noticeably greyer and less hygrophanous than other telamonia collected today. The Cap margin is pale while the cap itself appears slightly shiny and mottled, covered with a powdery look. Darker brown when aged. Stipes are silky white outside, staining browner with contact or age. One really notable characteristic was that the flesh in section was strongly pinkish/ purplish brown and this remaining purple brown color is a bit unusual. Collected under three needle pine (ponderosa?) and some nearby doug fir. The trees were all young. The cap color exactly matched the duff and color of the pine bark. Few caps emerged above the surface, you have to clear duff to find them. Then, they are gregarious. Pale cortina. KOH: Dark. UV Negative Will check spores tomorrow. Used references
