Description

Cortinarius obtusus (Fr.) Fr.

Image location: Jackson Demonstration State Forest, Mendocino Co., California, USA

The caps on these were up to 4.4 cm across and the stems up to 80mm long X 8.5 mm thick. The caps were hygrophanous. The spores were ~ 7.0-8.0 X 5.0-5.6 microns. Cortinarius acutus was another choice but these did seem more robust and the spores slightly wider.
