'Fairy ring' in the forest
Summary
[edit]Description'Fairy ring' in the forest - geograph.org.uk - 274456.jpg |
English: 'Fairy ring' in the forest This circle of Clitocybe geotropa in Pengelli Forest had a diameter of about 20 feet. It's caused by the centre of the mycelium dying off as the outer ends spread further away towards fresh sources of nourishment at a uniform growth rate. The fruiting bodies (mushrooms) emerging above ground made a tasty addition to the supper table, and there were plenty more to be found. |
